Uvalde
County Treasurer Joni Deorsam recently hosted county
treasurers from across Texas during the Region 7 meeting
held in the Texas Courtroom located on the third floor of
the Uvalde County Courthouse.
Deorsam
said this was the first time Uvalde has hosted the regional
meeting.
“Everything went well. It was very successful,” Deorsam said
of the meeting which attracted 14 county treasurers from the
22 counties located in the region.
Prior to
the business meeting, Uvalde County Judge Bill Mitchell
welcomed the group and gave a brief history of the Tree City
and some of its well known citizens such as former
vice-president John Nance Garner and former governor Dolph
Briscoe.
Shelia
D’Spain, county treasurer of Kimble County and the
association’s president, conducted the business meeting.
Vivian
Wood, county treasurer of Williamson County, presented a
legislative update and then was nominated to represent
Region 7 for Outstanding County Treasurer.
Lunch was
catered by The Main Perc and afterward, Judge Mitchell led
the group on a tour of the Janey Slaughter Briscoe Grand
Opera House.
The Texas
Association of Court Administrators, Judge Mitchell and the
Uvalde County Auditor’s office supplied door prizes for the
meeting. The Uvalde Convention and Visitors Bureau presented
each attendee with a bag full of Uvalde souvenirs.
County
treasurers in attendance included Suzanne Royal, Atascosa
County; Suzanne Patterson, Comal County; Kay Welch, Bandera
County; Michelle Tuttle, Hays County; Laura Lundquist,
Gillespie County; Janis Floyd, Kinney County; Rita Moos,
Medina County; Diana Cummings, Llano County; Robert Bean,
Menard County; Kathy Brooks, Real County; as well as Deorsam,
D’Spain and Wood.
County
Treasurer staff in attendance included Oralia Ortega and
Lidia Casillas of Uvalde County, Lisa West of Real County
and Jolene Williams of Kimble County.
